Two mSMART self-management solutions are field-ready to be offered as VBBD programs. mSMART Medication Aide for smoking cessation with Chantix® and HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) with Truvada® are being pilot-tested by Duke University School of Medicine (DUSM). The cost of mSMART, the self-management app, is significantly lower than any prescription drug co-payment waiver, with additional benefit of higher efficacy of quit smoking or HIV prevention. Similar mHealth solutions for chronic care with self-management focus is also being developed that can produce similar Return on investment to the plan sponsors.
PHARMACY BENEFIT MANAGEMENT
Using mSMART analytics tool, the Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBM) can eliminate the waste from unproductive programs and generate savings for the plan sponsors. The individual-level adherence and behavior data from mSMART analytics helps PBM to assess and identify risks from various medication utilization and adherence programs, and identify the educational and incentive programs that could alternatively produce better ROI. mSMART also helps PBM to target high-risk population with messaging and connect them to the providers at sub-cohort or even individual levels that is not possible with any other PBM tools.
MEDICATION MISUSE PREVENTION
mSMART MedAware ™ helps patients to reduce the risks of medication abuse and misuse by them, and friends and families around them. It educates them how to recognize, respond and handle situations to prevent misuses. With opioid abuse on the rise, mSMART MedAware provides a cost effective solution for the payers to reduce miuse risk among its plan members. MedAware allows non-cancer non-trauma patients, who are managing pain with opioid medications, to effectively communicate their treatment progress including risks and symptoms with the providers, who are also taking an active role in misuse prevention.
